What is Podcasting? The word "podcasting" is a concatenation of the words "iPod" and "broadcasting". Podcasting is a method of publishing audio and video files over the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to an RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication) and receive these new files automatically for playback on portable media players such as the Apple iPod or the Microsoft Zune as well as personal computers with a media player such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quick Time, etc. What is a Podcast? We refer to a "podcast" as the actual audio or video file (usually .MP3, .MP4, .WMA, .WMV) that can be played online (streaming), manually downloaded, or automatically downloaded using software capable of reading and using RSS feeds such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and iTunes 7. Think of a podcast as a magazine subscription. You simply subscribe to the podcast you want, like a magazine, and the publisher (podcaster) will deliver the podcast to your home via your PC. However, unlike email or postal mail, you won't get any junk mail. You will only get the content you subscribe to and can cancel at any time. Why are you podcasting your audio and video training calls instead of having regularly scheduled teleconference calls like you used too? There are several reasons we discontinued our regularly scheduled conference calls in favor of streaming our calls online, allowing you to download them or podcast them to your portable media player. With teleconference calls, it was often difficult to get everyone to be able to be on the call at the same time due to everyone's hectic schedules. We also often exceeded our number of available phone lines so many people couldn't get on the call. It was also expensive to maintain 200 to 500 phone lines each month to do a few calls. Podcasting is a much more convenient and cost effective delivery system for our training materials. While teleconference calls have to be planned, scheduled and advertised well in advance of the call in date, with podcasts, we can record these audios and videos and deliver them to you on the fly, 24/7/365. You don't even need an invitation or a set schedule to listen to or view our podcasts. All you have to do is log in to SuperSmartPodcast.com any time you want to and listen to our streaming audios and videos, download them for play back on your computer or subscribe to one of our podcast feeds and sync them with your portable media player for playback anytime and anywhere. You can now get the training you want, at your convenience, wherever and whenever you want to! You can't do that with regularly scheduled conference calls. Do I need an iPod, iTunes or a portable audio/video player to listen to podcast audios or watch podcast videos? No, you don't need an iPod or other portable media player to listen to podcasts on your computer. Your computer likely has a built in media player such as Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 or Apple Quicktime 7 that will allow you to play podcast files after you've downloaded them from our website. You can also click here to Download iTunes 7 and use it as your default media player.
