What is Podcasting?

The word "podcasting" is a concatenation of the words "iPod" and "broadcasting". Podcasting is a method of publishing audio and video files over the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to an RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication) and receive these new files automatically for playback on portable media players such as the Apple iPod or the Microsoft Zune as well as personal computers with a media player such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quick Time, etc.

What is a Podcast?

We refer to a "podcast" as the actual audio or video file (usually .MP3, .MP4, .WMA, .WMV) that can be played online (streaming), manually downloaded, or automatically downloaded using software capable of reading and using RSS feeds such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and iTunes 7.

Think of a podcast as a magazine subscription. You simply subscribe to the podcast you want, like a magazine, and the publisher (podcaster) will deliver the podcast to your home via your PC. However, unlike email or postal mail, you won't get any junk mail. You will only get the content you subscribe to and can cancel at any time.

Why are you podcasting your audio and video training calls instead of having regularly scheduled teleconference calls like you used too?

There are several reasons we discontinued our regularly scheduled conference calls in favor of streaming our calls online, allowing you to download them or podcast them to your portable media player.

With teleconference calls, it was often difficult to get everyone to be able to be on the call at the same time due to everyone's hectic schedules. We also often exceeded our number of available phone lines so many people couldn't get on the call. It was also expensive to maintain 200 to 500 phone lines each month to do a few calls. Podcasting is a much more convenient and cost effective delivery system for our training materials.

While teleconference calls have to be planned, scheduled and advertised well in advance of the call in date, with podcasts, we can record these audios and videos and deliver them to you on the fly, 24/7/365. You don't even need an invitation or a set schedule to listen to or view our podcasts. All you have to do is log in to SuperSmartPodcast.com any time you want to and listen to our streaming audios and videos, download them for play back on your computer or subscribe to one of our podcast feeds and sync them with your portable media player for playback anytime and anywhere. You can now get the training you want, at your convenience, wherever and whenever you want to! You can't do that with regularly scheduled conference calls.

How do I subscribe to the SuperSmartPodcast.com Podcast using iTunes? (Highly Recommended!)

  1. First you need to know the web address (the RSS Feed) for our iTunes Podcast which is...

You can also determine this address by clicking this little iTunes button above or on our home page.

Please Note: You will notice that this link contains your email address and password, so avoid giving this link to anyone who you don't want having this private information. Instead, give them a link to our public podcast home page at SuperSmartPodcast.com and have them create their own account.

  2. Copy this RSS feed address into your computer's memory (clipboard) by highlighting web address and right clicking and copying or by using the CTRL + C key on your keyboard.

  3. Now open iTunes on your computer and choose Advanced > "Subscribe to Podcast..." on the iTunes menu bar. Doing so will open a "Subscribe to Podcast" window where you can paste the iTunes Podcast web address you copied from above and press "OK". Once you do, our SuperSmartPodcast.com Pocast will be added to iTunes under Library > "Podcasts" on the iTunes left navigation bar.

  4. When you view the new podcast, you will see that the files will start downloading automatically. If this is your first time to download our SuperSmartPodcast.com Podcast, there may be a lot of files to download and iTunes may require you to manually approve some of the files before they are downloaded. If you click the little arrow next to the name of the podcast, a submenu will drop down exposing all the available podcasts. Once all of the podcasts have been downloaded, you can play them directly via iTunes by clicking on their names or you can sync them with your iPod for portable listening.

  5. To sync your podcasts with your iPod, plug your iPod into your computer using the iPod USB synchronization / charging cable. When you do, iTunes will recognize your iPod and it will appear on the iTunes left navigation bar under "Devices". Clicking on your device name will open your iPod page in iTunes. On your iPod page, click the "Podcasts" tab at the top of the page. Here you can choose to sync all or certain episodes from all or some of your Podcasts. Choose the settings you wish to use and click "Apply" at the bottom of the page. When you do, your iTunes and your iPod will begin the synchronization process.

You can also sync iTunes and your iPod by clicking File > Sync "Your iPod Name" on the iTunes menu bar or by right clicking on your iPod's name under devices on iTunes left navigation bar and choose "Sync". Doing so will transfer all your podcasts onto your iPod and store them under the "Podcast" folder under your device name.

  6. After synchronization, when you eject your iPod, all your audio podcasts can be found on your iPod under Music > Podcasts. If you have a Video iPod and have downloaded any video Podcasts, they will appear under Videos > Video Podcasts. These video Podcasts may also appear under Music > Podcasts on your Video iPod and be marked with a small video symbol. However, if you play back these videos under the Music section, they will appear as small thumbnail videos instead of full screen videos. For best viewing of Podcast videos, be sure to view them in the Videos > Video Podcasts section.
Please Note: You must have a Video iPod to download and play videos on the go. If you don't have a Video iPod, you can still download and play our videos in iTunes on your computer.

Do I need an iPod, iTunes or a portable audio/video player to listen to podcast audios or watch podcast videos?

No, you don't need an iPod or other portable media player to listen to podcasts on your computer. Your computer likely has a built in media player such as Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 or Apple Quicktime 7 that will allow you to play podcast files after you've downloaded them from our website. You can also click here to Download iTunes 7 and use it as your default media player.

Please Note: If you want to listen to your podcasts on the go, you need a portable audio/video player such as the Video iPod (highly recommended) or the Microsoft Zune.
